Roll Back Malaria Progress and Impact Series: Number 1, 2010 - Malaria Funding & Resource Utilization, The First Decade of Roll Back Malaria
This first report released as part of the 2010-2011 Roll Back Malaria Progress and Impact series, highlights recent increase in external funding for malaria control over the last ten years in twelve countries due mainly to support from Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the US President’s Malaria Initiative and the World Bank Booster Program for Malaria Control in Africa.
The report demonstrates the link between such increase and positive impact in terms increases in malaria intervention coverage and lives saved. It therefore calls for the urgent need for continued funding and support to address the outstanding needs and realize the full potential of malaria control. Global financing needs for malaria control were estimated at $5-6 billion per year for program implementation cost.
