Our Vision
A world where everyone has access to healthy diets, leading to better health for people and the planet. Monitoring and achieving progress towards healthy diets for people was identified as the priority need to be addressed, while monitoring and achieving healthy diets for the planet, especially with climate change, was identified as a longer-term need.
Our Mission
Enable national and global decision-makers and stakeholders to monitor and achieve healthy diets for people and the planet.
Our Objectives
- Determine the components of a healthy diet and how best to measure healthy diets for different purposes.
- Build consensus with national and global stakeholders on healthy diet metrics that are suitable for specific purposes.
- Promote uptake and use of measures and indicators of healthy diets among national and global stakeholders.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With 195 members – 194 countries and the European Union, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.
UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.
We provide and advocate for education, health and nutrition services. Protect children from violence and abuse. Bring clean water and sanitation to those in need. And keep them safe from climate change and disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations agency that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health.
WHO leads global efforts to expand universal health coverage. We direct and coordinate the world’s response to health emergencies. And we promote healthier lives – from pregnancy care through old age.
