Countdown for Global Mental Health 2030 Dashboard

Measuring the current state of global mental health for accountability and action

August 15, 2023

The Sustainable Development Agenda propelled efforts and attention for non-communicable diseases, and specifically for mental health, onto the global agenda. Mental health is especially important for young people, who represent 1 in 6 of the world’s population.

To address the growing needs posed by mental health conditions, reliable data on mental health burden, national policies, and demand and access are imperative. Guided by this vision and in partnership with Global Mental Health at Harvard, WHO, UNICEF, the Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN) and United for Global Mental Health (UnitedGMH), the Countdown for Global Mental Health 2030 Dashboard was created as a platform that harnesses the power of data to understand mental health determinants comprehensively.

This interactive dashboard brings together useful information on key mental health indicators, empowering users to advance effective action for mental health using quality data and evidence. Equipped with comprehensive data, policymakers and stakeholders can enhance national mental health policies and plans, ensuring they are responsive to the specific needs of the population, including young people themselves. With this information, key stakeholders can foster impactful discussions and informed decisions, nurturing the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of children and adolescents, and ensuring inclusivity for all.

Notes for the dashboard:
The dashboard is structured around the four components of the Countdown for GMH 2030 framework:
Determinants of mental health, factors shaping the demand (and need) for mental health care, factors shaping the strength of the mental health system, mental health wellbeing

Moreover, the dashboard is divided into distinct pages.
• Overview numerical: Numerical indicators (quantitative measures like percentages, rates or scores) to monitor and track various determinants of mental health, the mental health burden of disease, mental health policies and plans, mental health resources (including financial and human), and self-reported wellbeing measures.
• Overview categorical: Indicators (qualitative descriptive measures) to monitor and track sub-components such as financial accessibility of mental health care, policies and plan, M&E and data systems.
• Country data table: Country-level disaggregated data on various mental health indicators listed in the numerical and categorical sections.
• Data gaps: Information on missing data, disaggregated regionally and across different countries.
