Countdown to 2015: Taking stock of maternal, newborn and child survival - Decade Report (2000-2010)
Countdown to 2015 is global movement of academics, governments, international agencies, health care professional associations, donors and nongovernmental organizations, with The Lancet as a key partner. It uses country-specific data to stimulate and support country progress towards achieving the health-related MDGs by focusing on coverage of effective interventions for maternal, newborn and child health and coverage determinants, including health systems and policies, financial flows and equity.
This decade report describes progress achieved in maternal, newborn and child health survival in sixty eight priority countries. While improvements are observed in many countries in terms of accelerated increases in coverage of effective health interventions reduced maternal and child mortality, many countries included in the report are still off track for achieving the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 and are not increasing coverage of key interventions fast enough. The report recognizes however that the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 are still achievable by 2015 if a dramatic acceleration of political commitment and financial investment can be ensured.
